So I'm trying to drag myself into the Linux generation. I'm stumbling my way through a dual boot XP/lubuntu install, but the CD insists I'm using Vista, when I'm using XP. I don't know whether this is related, or this tutorial is simply out of date, but the install alongside option is not present when I try to install:

A) Is this a problem (is there an issue with my hard disc?)
B) If so, how do I fix it?
C) Is this related to my inability to run GParted to shrink my XP partition (or is that because I'm trying to run GParted of the lubuntu CD?)

Hi and welcome to the forums :-)

It looks like that tutorial is for 10.10.

Try using the manual option (something else) to install.

Certainly you should check the CD for defects and possibly the image too:

In the end I got fed up with it and just installed it over XP, so I guess it's moot now. I'd still be interested to know why it thought that.
