Hi guys!
So i just found out about GAP while looking on ways on how to make gifs.
Anyway i am a new user of Ubuntu and i am currently using the old version which is 9.10. Can you guys help me on how i can install GAP?
I typed this at the terminal sudo apt-get install gimp-gap. So i just followed th instructions there like type Y and N for yes or no.
The at the end it said "0% waiting for headers"
Then the terminal exited on its own.
I check my GIMP and its still not installed.
Help please?
Do i have to download something so i can fully install GAP?
Please help. Thank you.

Hi skym0366,
GAP won't be found in your programs menus. It's an extension (perhaps "plug-in" might be a better word?) that gives you more tools and options when using Gimp. If, after installing GAP, you open Gimp and look through various menus ("Filters", for example), you should now see choices for animation that weren't there before.
Here are a couple of links to tutorials to get you started.

Gimp is a truly beautiful program, GAP just makes it better (and more fun!)
Enjoy! :)
EDIT: skym0366, I may have misunderstood your question (sometimes that happens). Apparently you did open Gimp and check for the animation options, but they aren't there. Is that correct?
I did encounter the same problem once, and if I remember correctly, I needed to upgrade the version of Gimp that I had at the time. The fact that the terminal exited on its own, when you were installing, seems odd and might be why GAP didn't install correctly.
The only thing I know for sure, when I'm wanting to try new software, is that it's good to make sure your system has been updated first. Also check requirements for any new software. I'm sorry not to have been more helpful (I'm still learning, too), but hopefully someone else will pop in to add better information. :)

Hay,
It wont install, ubuntu 9.10 is to old. No longer supported. Some if not all repros are dead.
I dont think you can "manualy" install is either,
Good luck though

zero2xiii, You posted your reply while I was editing mine. I agree that the problem likely has to do with outdated software.
I didn't realise that newer software couldn't manually be installed on older versions of Ubuntu at all (but, it's not something I've ever needed to try).
skym0366, I know that sometimes older computers don't handle newer versions well, but if your computer can handle it, you might consider installing a newer version of Ubuntu. So far, I've found Gimp to work very nicely on both 11.04 and 11.10. It might be worth a try.
