I am facing an incredible problem here:
I need an extension for GNOME Shell 3.2 that can display cpu and memory usage. But it isn't that simple.
systemMonitor@extensions.gnome.org: I can't interpret this information accurately, especially on the memory part.
gnome-system-monitor: Uses too much memory and I need to switch to the window, or have it "always on top"
indicator-sysmonitor: Just what I need, but in GNOME Shell it doesn't display the text, so it just won't work. (see image)
system-monitor@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com: Great, but takes up too much space in top panel, I need single indicator for cpu, not 4 (since I have 4 cores), also causes GNOME Shell 3.2.1 to crash, so won't work until that is fixed.

Can anyone make a suggestion to any other extension/indicator I can use?

I use a combination of Cairo-dock and screenlets and make my own

Have you considered Conky ? There are many configurations available at Gnome Look . Here is one I put together .

Thank you both for the replies, but I really want something that is small, and fits snugly in the notification area/top panel. I might try Conky though.
