i might be getting an Acer Iconia Tab W500 in the next week or so, found a good deal on ebay for just under $400 US. Of course im going to put ubuntu on it, as windows is no good for such hardware, and im just curious as to how ubuntu performs on touchscreen tablets. Mostly i want to know about touch drivers. are they a pain in the neck?

Unless the Acer has a supported CPU you may have problems installing/running ubuntu

Check out the ATOM N450 based ExoPC. It had been $600 but is on sale now on Microsoft's website for just $400.

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/pd/productID.224518200?siteID=5bPSTcPGJTo-vpDpS0IS1Ndp4WrVKR99Ow

Since its Atom based Ubuntu is easy to install.

The above website's ExoPC comes with Windows pre-installed, 64G of storage, HDMI port, micro-HDSC card slot, 2 usb ports.

It supports bluetooth and WiFi B/G/N

Its a nice size at 11" tablet.

I have it and it works great.

There is also a good writeup on the Intel AppUP website about how to create a Multi-Boot environment for it:

http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/blog/2011/07/07/creating-multi-boot-exopc-tablet

You can also get alot of info from the ExoPC website in the Community forum:

The ExoPC is made by Pegatron which is a division of ASUS.

I have ubuntu 11.10 installed and have multitouch etc working ok.

Ubuntu's default on-screen keyboard called "onboard" is available but during Ubuntu installation you will want to have a USB mouse and keyboard handy until the install is done.
