A week or so ago a new kernel package was introduced. I downloaded it via the update manager. However, later that day I foolishly did an autoremove (was trying to trim my bloated root folder). After which Ubuntu will not shut down, it merely restarts. So I am guessing that the update hadn't "stuck" as I did the autoremove before restarting Ubuntu. My question is, where can I find that update again, and how do I go about installing it? I appreciate the help. 11.04 Natty Kernel Linux 2.6.38-13-generic

Mark the kernel for re-installation from synaptic package manager and select apply . I don't know what the effects of running auto remove before an update is completed by restarting .

Well, that worked. I just clicked all the relevant kernel options and re-installed them, and now it shuts down as it is supposed to. Thanks for the help.
