Switch Users Menu Gone

The switch users menu (upper right hand corner of the screen) disappeared after I renamed the account. Why? It's still there in other accounts. Also, alt-tab stopped working at the same time.

Update:
I uninstalled the KDE environment, which brought it back. No, I wasn't using KDE at the time of the problem, I was using the Unity environment. I had the mail, network, sound, time and power icons, just not the switch user menu.

I installed the Plasma Desktop and ran it under the GNOME environment. It got rid of the networking and sound controls but left the switch users menu. Really confused...
