Mouse moves, but won't register clicks...

Toshiba A215-S4757 is the model of the laptop.

I had Window Vista and have toyed with ubuntu in the past. Decided to wipe clean and install 11.10 (32 bit) onto the laptop.

The built in mousepad works to move the pointer around the screen. It will open apps on the app bar using the onboard left mouse button. Once in the app (mozilla, system preferences, office, etc) the left button won't work, but the pointer will still move.

I have determined it to not be a defective laptop mouse as I have attached a wireless mouse and the same thing happens.

Any suggestions?

Mouse properties? Humm if you have the Live CD try booting from it and see if what you have there.

I got everything to work there for a second, but it seems to have reverted too not registering the clicks. I think it happened when I touched the mouse on the laptop. It was working after a restart but only with the bluetooth mouse. Puzzled right now.
