View Full Version : [SOLVED] Lost Windows boot option

Hi, new user here.. I have just installed v9.04 ubuntu from the alternate cd, and was aiming to have the dual boot option, but when I boot up, I only see ubuntu related options. I have a fakeraid setup. Maybe someone can take a shot at deciphering my bootscript results, or point me in the right direction? All I can tell from the script is that there is no mount point for windows. Thanks!!

there are cautions about Fakeraid here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto

dual boot windows 7 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

Did you use any of the auto methods to install or you partitioned yourself manually during the install?
Or maybe in advance from windows?

Anyway, the disks are a mess. Look at the invalid MBR messages for both sda and sdb.

Oh man, does this mean my windows is toast? Ok, first I set aside a 20gb partition using vista disk mgmt tool, and then while installing ubuntu, I chose automatic configuring/partitioning of that same 20gb piece, and I believe it created an ext4 and a swap. At least I have things backed up. thanks

It doesn't have to mean that it's toast. Partition table/MBR errors can be repaired. But that's beyond my expertise especially not even looking at the computer so I can't give you any solid advice. On top of that running a RAID0 might make it more complicated than without it.

Ok, good news, all appears to be working now. The partition issue is probably still present but it doesn't seem to be limiting the OSs. Upgraded to v10.04 (alternate of course), received an option to repair windows, did fixboot & fixmbr cmds, installed easybcd. Now have a fine working dual boot installed on a RAID0 fakeraid, did not lose any files except for the windows mbr as mentioned, which I probably could've avoided to begin with by not overwriting it with grub during the initial 9.04 installation. Only took me 2 weeks! Thanks for all the help.
