HI
Trying to set dual monitors in ubuntu 11.10, with ati cards has been only pain.
Even if I got two video cards, unity goes 2d when I set xinerama, and gnome 3 too.
Can you guys help me with a right configuration.
Regards

Yep Don't you hate that.
I could not get dual monitor with the dafault radeon drives. I had to install fglrx and even then there were problems.
Hopefully when the new version of fglrx comes out it will work with gnome 3
Anyway check

or if you re-installed fglrx try

or

not recommended but as a last resort.
