How would I go upon installing this driver on Ubuntu 10.10? I would really like to get Compiz going on this.

You need more recent kernel and Xorg, anything else is bound to be unstable. Your best bet is to install 11.04, if you disable Unity, you get essentially the same thing as 10.10.

I have a laptop with the same platform (Sandy Bridge) and it won't even boot on anything older than 11.10. I would suggest starting there.

Iv got intel hd 3000, Iv tried 10.04.3 and it did not work, iv tried 11.04 and 10.10 and it did not work. Im now running on 11.10 and it is running, flawlessly (except for forced anti-aliasing being quiet annoying)
