All:

Six years ago I bought an accessible PDA for US$5K + tax.
That PDA has died on me, without my realizing it. The replacement costs US$7.5K + tax.

The iPad has an MSRP of US$799. The Xoom has an MSRP of US$499.
System76 offers the Lemur Ultra with a base price of US$615.

I'd get one of those plus a Braille Display Monitor, but for one issue. Braille Display Monitors start at around US$4K, and can easily hit US$15K.

The big expense is the cost of the Braille Display Monitor. These are going up each year, with little to no chance of the price stabilizing, much less going down.

(This is the inevitable result of having party # 1 pay for the item, party # 2 receiving the item, party # 3 organizing things, and party # 4 supplying the item, with party # 4 not responsible to any of those parties in terms of quality.)

Does anybody have any thoughts on even where to begin, to get the cost of Braille Display Monitors down.
