So I install Ubuntu 10.10 and slowly updated everything to 11.10 and when I go to Gnome classic, it's like a classic version of Gnome 3; not Gnome 2. Anyhow, I'd love to get my Gnome 2 back. Thanks in advance.

There's a MATE project which may do what you want but I know nothing about it. A little bit of searching should yield some threads. You could also take a look at Xubuntu or possibly installing Xfce-desktop on 11.10 from the repositories. I've switched to Gnome-shell so don't have much experience with Gnome 2 work-alikes. Yet another alternative would be to download a live version of Linux Mint 12. A lot of people seem happy with it. No shortage of things to try. Like trying on shoes, eventually you'll find one that's comfortable.

add the debian squeeze repo's and install gnome haha

... but yeah, seriously, you are stuck with gnome-shell or xfce...or kde...or lxde... or icewm...or openbox... or... others

I really don't see a point in gnome after trying xfce (http://ubuntu-answers.blogspot.com/2011/11/replace-ubuntu-with-xubuntu.html).
This is my suggestion - give it a try. You can use xubuntu/xfce and it would look exacly like gnome2 without compiz.
You can also install compiz and have a gnome2+compiz-like system,
(this is what I did eventually) if you can't live without desktop zoom for example.

It might be more convincing if you attached a screen print
