Desktop restarts, when starting or performing some actions in applications

I'm running Xubuntu 11.10, but I have this problem that my whole Desktops restarts, when start fx. Virtualbox or highligting an input field in VLC.

I'm not experience enough to know where to start, debugging this problem.
