ubuntu 11.10, gnome-shell v3 ati radeon gallium X1550
history - was working fine with 3d accel and dual head support and then installed updates when notified by the update manager
now - no splash screen, no login screen - goes straight into tty. can get to xwindow with startx but now it's classic gnome not the new gnome shell - and it's only got the top panel - no apps are available - oh and i've still got twin head support in that the screen extends over both monitors - so some of it is there but not all of it
also looks like graphics accell is not working now
purged fglrx and did dpkg-reconfigure but it's still booting straight into tty - all my files are still there and i can run applications from the terminal manually - but that isn't a lot of fun
i only installed the listed updates and i'm dead in the water
