Questions on updating Edubuntu 9.04 32bit

Hi I recently resurrected my old hard drive from my laptop when my desktop hard drive crashed. Problem is my laptop has sat around for years at this point (the graphics card went) so I still have edubuntu 9.04 32bit on it. However My desktop is a 64bit machine and 9.04 isn't supported anymore. Now I know I can upgrade with the cd via the terminal from edubuntu 9.04 32bit to edubuntu 10.04 32bit but can I upgrade with a USB or iso from edubuntu 9.04 32bit to ubuntu 10.04 64bit.

In my opinion to go from 32bit to 64bit would require a fresh install.

Correct, one can not upgrade into 64 bit.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading an obsolete release anyway. A live boot and fresh install are a better way.
