Hello all,
I have been running various versions of Ubuntu for about a year now.
I have always managed to work out what I need to do to achieve certain things but this has stumped me.

Since upgrading recently I am finding a few problems and want to re-intall.
I have an imac about 5 years old, which I managed to wipe a year ago - hence the transition to ubuntu.
The inbuilt disk drive is broken and I run disks on an external drive.

I can't seem to reboot using it.

I have tried holding down 'c' and the option key hen I restart.
The 'c' button takes me straight through starting up (actually, I quite like that, I was having issues before)
the option key only shows the hard drive as a possibility to boot from.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated - and while I have been doing this for a year - essentially I am still a newbie who could do with things being spelt out, my messing about with things probably hasn't helped with all the little glitches
