I've recently installed Ubuntu Oneiric and faced one very annoying problem : half of the times OS boots up normally, but in other 50% of cases pointer cursor becomes invisible, without any apparent reason. The really strange thing about this is that all other cursors work, including resize, drag and text edit cursors. Also, the cursor shows up when I point to non-native Ubuntu app such as Firefox, but disappears when inside workspace or programs such as Document Viewer.

I have never heard of such an issue. I have 2 questions for you.

1. Are you using Unity or Gnome Shell?

2. Is the cursor invisible at the login screen too?

I'm using Unity and the cursor is always invisible. Yesterday I've discovered that switching to Unity 2D and back to 3D solves the problem most of the times, but not always. Also, there's one detail I've forgot to mention : when Ubuntu is booting just after the logo is shown the screen turns off, as if computer is turned off, and I can hear a clicking-popping sound from my speakers, like the one when there's voltage surge in a power line. Then, just before Ubuntu finishes up loading, everything goes back to normal.
