Xubuntu Mail Icon

I am running Xubuntu 11.10 64 and am having a problem with the mail icon that resides in the Indicator plugin.

I have set my account up with Thunderbird but when I receive new mail, the icon doesn't change color........ but when I click on the icon, underneath the text 'Contacts' it does let me know there is unread mail.

Is this a bug or do I need to configure something?

I have the same problem but mine is intermittent. Sometimes it changes color and sometimes it doesn't. I don't know if there is a way to fix it. What I did was intall the Thunderbird extension called FireTray. It allows you to minimize Thunderbird to the panel notification area (system tray) and at least is always shows when you have new messages.
