Hello ,

when i try to run my update manager and select packages for updating, it says "not authenticated" message for the packages and then downloads/updates NOTHING.

Somebody suggested i run "apt-get update" then I was able to update my packages. But it SHOULD be able to do so without having to do an "apt-get update" in a terminal everytime before running synaptic!?

Any suggestions what i'm doing wrong. This is a relatively NEW wrinkle that has come up.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10; kernel 2.6.35-23-generic.

Thank you!

"not authenticated" is related to non trusted archives like ppa/external non genuine ubuntu archive & so on

you might know whats about, as you have added it(them)

this warning is requesting "signature" proof.

No i get this warning even on standard updates of standard Ubuntu components. I don't think you've understood my problem. Besides, it GOES AWAY after running apt-get update but only for that session.
