I recently installed ubuntu and was doing fine until last night, i tried logging in but it would just kick me back to the login screen. So, after a bit of searching, i learned that i had to reinstall ubuntu-desktop. So, i did so through terminal in the login screen (as root) and I then restarted my computer. I could log in successfully and get to my desktop, but the power menu (usually in the far right) and my username (next to the power menu) don't appear anymore. It's not a big deal, but I like having them there. Attached are two screenshots: one pre-reinstall and one post-reinstall. Any help is appreciated!

You can completely reset the Unity settings as follows. Note: you will lose personalisation such as your choice of background, but you can set it again afterwards.

From a terminal, enter the following command. Warning: It may take a couple of minutes to run.

unity --resetLet us know whether or not this works.
