Hi -
I experimented with KDE on Pardus and I really liked what I saw, but I missed the great ubuntu repositories. So, I downloaded mint 12rc this week and installed KDE standard (Kubuntu did not work as well on my machine). Then I disabled most of the desktop effects. KDE now works even better on mint than Pardus on my PC.:popcorn:
I used the package manager to remove compiz, nautilus, gnome3, MATE and disabled the Strigi Indexer (any reason to keep the Indexer enabled since I use only webmail?). My system (Core2 Duo at 3Gz with 2 GB RAM) uses about 498 MB RAM at idle, according to the System Monitor; Top shows about 1GB used (I assume it factors in system buffers). So I got some RAM to spare. Any other suggestions for optimizing KDE?
