Not sure if introductions are acceptable but here goes.
My name is Doug Wyman. I first worked on an IBM 1401 in 1962
I got fed up with the priesthood hierarchy and left computers for telecommunications
till the Z-80 when I started doing asm. Then till I retired in June I have been in
government work which excluded Unix/Linix/Ubuntu so here I am starting all over again.
Doug:)

I am in Washington State USA. The state IT allows ONLY Microsoft.
And before that only IBM. Thank you all for the welcome.
I have been writing junk since the introduction of the Z-80 and once in
1962 on an IBM. (think stacks of punch cards)
Also some PDP-11 and Data General clone (TTY interface)
My specialty is telecommunications and I created the first peer to peer mobile (vehicular) network using UHF radio and 2-way satellite.
I have written coms software for many many imbedded devices.
:lolflag: (laughing because it means little and I am again a beginner)

Welcome!
I remember the Hollerith cards. I also used the PDP-11; however, the one I worked with only had the switches, no TTY.
Oh, the federal government uses a lot of Linux these days. State and local government don't seems to as much.
Enjoy your time here. Most people are friendly.

In my 40+ year carrier, I have had to learn or relearn a lot of things. Enjoy having the freedom of doing it at your own pace. I am looking forward to retirement if that is ever going to be possible :)
