In the link you gave, it is what car do you drive.

well, it is not so much the same. In this thread, it is more dedicated to :

- Pictures of a sportive car
- Tuning accepted, ...
- Great engines,
- Vintage sportive cars as well...
...

Lot of horse power ;)

Do you mean Sports Cars? English translations can be tricky.

Fixed the title..

No, I don't drive a sports car for two reasons:

A) I cannot afford it.
B) I don't want to pay out my nose for insurance (and gas).

I think a better title would be American muscle cars. I have always found American "sports" cars to be powerful but not sporty.

Mopar (Crystler), was top dog, in the 70's.

Love them.

I had a '77 ford granada. Don't laugh.

I smoked firebirds, with that 302 motor.

Now, I drive an economical Toyota.

Does a 2000 Prelude count it super reliable and gets over 20 miles to the gallon I consider it a sporty economy car however...

0- 60 in 7.6 seconds with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
The speedo goes to 150 and I had buried it years ago.

I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. She's gorgeous. Packing an exhilarating 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed transmission, and stock 15" wheels. She comes fully equipped with an aftermarket mirror and non-repaired dents across the driver side thanks to being hit broadside by two deer at the same time. Don't ask, I don't know either.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2006/p1020491scaleddown.png

She has, however, had an attempted repair job since this photo was taken by yours truly who took a grinder to the rust area and bare'd it, then after some quick Googling for bondo tips slapped some bondo on, sanded it, painted it with some light tan base and called it a day.

Hey, she turns on when I flip the key, stops when I hit the left pedal, goes when I hit the right pedal, and isn't too hungry of a date at the gas pumps. Minimal repair jobs needed, cheap replacement parts, 165k and smiling. We'll hit 300k easy. :D

On topic:
Someday I'll have that '63 Vette...

They say that this car is amazing to drive . I have never had the chance to have one. They designed with car with an important weight reduction compared to the reference 205 one. I guess that's why it is such a good response. It is light and the engine is sufficient.

An excellent ratio. Do you have picture of this nice car? That was also my favorite. Enjoy driving it;)

I had an 88 Mazda 323 GT Turbo, which was surprisingly fast, for something that looked like it did (old school 4-door box). I upgraded the Turbo and exhaust (and a few other tings); had it running in the 14s at the drag strip. I loved that car, but eventually it died. I initially purchased the car for 300 bucks (CAD).

Maybe we need a definition of 'sports car' as muscle cars are only good for going in a straight line and then you get the 'ricers' which rev high but don't go that fast either.

(Just for the record I own a 6th gen. Honda Civic with a Acura Integra 1834cc B1B4 motor which is straight from the factory and not a custom job, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic_(sixth_generation)#South_Africa_180i_C ivic which kills 1600 VTEC but it's still no sports car)

I never understood with this 205 gti has so much power.

In Germany if I recall well, they had a 1.8L as standard, and other in France the regular 1.1-1.3L. It was a relatively light car, is it right?

Maybe we need a definition of 'sports car' as muscle cars are only good for going in a straight line and then you get the 'ricers' which rev high but don't go that fast either.
Well, I own both...

My "muscle car" is a '68 AMC Javelin - 390 (small block) with an Isky 505 cam, Borg-Warner T10P tranny, blah, blah, blah.

It'll easily do 70 MPH in 1st gear. Good for shaking up friends that have never been in a muscle car. LoL!

You can be cruising at 65, drop it into 2nd gear, and it accelerates like you're coming off a stoplight.

I've never had it over 160 MPH. 120-140 is the sweetspot. After that, you're covering too much ground, too fast, and it ceases being fun, you know?

Anyway, that would be my definition of a muscle car: If it takes off at any speed - any gear - like you're taking off a stoplight, e.g. torque up the ying-yang, and RPMs to boot

My B16A2 is a totally different experience... There is NO TORQUE. Everything depends on the RPM.

You gotta come off the line HARD in a 6Gen CiViC!!!

There are various jokes about this:

Drive it like it's stolen!

H-O-N-D-A = Hold On Not Done Accelerating

Et cetera, et cetera.

Here's what it's like:

Coming off a stoplight WFO with a B16A2 is like being shot from a catapult - no wheel spin - no smoke - it just hooks up and you're gone (this is usually where you win the race - after that, the other guy is playing catch-up).

You're on the limiter (8200 RPM) almost immediately, and BOOM you slam it into 2nd.

In 2nd gear you're banging up against the limiter almost as fast as 1st gear, except now you're doing around 70 and accelerating like a mofo. Boom, slam it into 3rd.

3rd gear is interesting! Now, you have time to light a cig, drink a Coke, and see how far behind the other guy is. LoL! 3rd tops out around 110.

4th & 5th are a snooze. Basically, you're just building speed SLOWLY. All the excitement was over, after you left 2nd gear, really.

I'll stop now, before this turns into a diatribe... :)

In Germany if I recall well, they had a 1.8L as standard, and other in France the regular 1.1-1.3L. It was a relatively light car, is it right?
The GTIs were 1.6 (115bhp) and 1.9 (130bhp). They only weigh about 880kg and have a very "blippy" throttle response. Top speed isn't very good when compared to modern cars (or even performance cars of the day) but it's all about the absolutely MENTAL handling around corners. Keep the revs up during that and the average speed you'll be doing means you'll beat a hell of a lot of other cars out there.

A popular conversion to do was to take the Citroen BX 16v / Peugeot 405 Mi16 engine (1.9 16v) and stick it in (engine mounts are the same). That's what I've done in mine and rather than it kind of peaking at about 4000rpm, it'll just keep on pulling. Couple that with the fact that the 205 is made out of metal that's barely thicker than the tin foil you'd get a takeaway meal in and you get a hell of a lightweight car with comparatively a lot of power. Brilliantly designed chassis and suspension setup gives it a very direct feel - you really feel everything going on under the wheels.

Interesting thing about German 205s is there was one called the Rallye, which I think in Germany was a 1.9 GTI engine but in an even more stripped down and lighter car than the standard GTI. The rest of the world had the Rallye but only with a 1.3 litre engine.

Want to. Specifically a '73 Ford Mustang Mach I.

Other rides that I would like to drive, although they're not sporty cars, are either a '94 Ford Bronco 4x4 or a '98 Ford F-250 Power Stroke diesel 4x4.

Ultimately, as far as sporty cars go, it would be either the Lambo Gallardo, Ford GT, Chevy 'Vette Z06, Porsche 911 GT3RS, or Mercedes SLS AMG, or Dodge Viper SRT10 but there's no chance in hell the average person could afford them, except for maybe the 'Vette or the Viper.

Diesels are generally better for the jobsite or the trail. Gasoline engines are generally better for the strip, the track, or for everyday driving.

You from the US?

Nothing wrong with with diesels for everyday driving, they are actually very nice for everyday driving as they generate power at lower RPMs, requiring less gear changes, uses way less fuel so you get MUCH better mileage on a tank. You should check out some of the 'new' diesel technology out there.

Oh, and Audi has won the 12hr Sebring & 24hr Le Mans races a few times in a diesel car so they can be raced, I think this was more of a publicity thing but I could be wrong.

My next vehicle will be a diesel I reckon.

The main area where diesels really shine is hauling stuff or towing stuff, or going off-road though. Why do you think the only engine option in a modern semi is a diesel engine?

Diesels are used for "working" vehicles because they're simply more efficient. Fleet owners pay attention to fuel costs.

Petrol engines only became widely used in cars because they traditionally gave a smoother ride due to their different method of burning the fuel. That's no longer the case with modern diesels, and there's been quite a shift towards diesels for cars of all sizes outside the US.

One must classify "sports car". There are sporty cars and there are sports cars. In my definition, a sports car has 2 doors, 2 seats, is light weight and of course fast and maneuverable. Particularly maneuverable while fast. In example- BBC Top Gear power laps list. These IMO are sports cars!
