Ubuntu 11.10 Will Not Load

Hi,

I have an older laptop (Evo N610C) I recently upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10. After the install (using Update Manager), I rebooted per the instructions, and now Ubuntu will not load. I am seeing the cool Ubuntu logo with the white and red progress indicators, but that's it.

Before I give up the ghost on this laptop, I wonder if there is something I can do to get Ubuntu working again.

What are the hardware specifications of this machine?
