How to reinstall ubuntu-desktop?

The other day I was trying to install mate DE and something went wrong, so I ended up with a broken ubuntu-unity system - unity wouldn't load properly.

Now Im running gnome 3, but I would like to restore unity...

if you wanna make with unity resetting then
unity --reset

if its not done then remove it from syanptic and install it again .
