I'm trying to uninstall Gwibber and Ubuntu Archive Manager under my Ubuntu 11.10 but there is always this warning and I cannot gauge the consequences of it:
"If you uninstall Archive Manager, future updates will not include new items in The Ubuntu desktop system set. Are you sure you want to continue?"

So, what happens if I uninstall these two applications? Are there no further updates to my unity desktop or do I have no desktop environment after the removal? For me the actual warning is not very meaningful.
The related package is "ubuntu-desktop".

Thx for answering. :)

Just a quick warning, I would never remove ubuntu-desktop or any package it depends on. If you want the possibility to remove this software, you could try Xubuntu, because the xubuntu-desktop has fewer dependencies. On top of that Xubuntu in my opinion is the configurable Ubuntu variant.
