Eh, no. Lubuntu is doing better than ever and is one of the main users of LXDE.

Site took a while to load but did load (may just be server issues)...

Server's had a temporary failure. I am assured by the mailing list that the VM will be back shortly at full capacity.

I suggest you look at the distrowatch rankings, lubuntu is up in the top 20 regularly.

And I promise you, devlopment has not slowed to a halt. Even if LXDE did, Lubuntu would probably keep LXDE as a stable, non-feature-creepingbase to build upon.

LXDE web-site SUX. Every now and then it seems the whole thing does down. I don't think they have stopped or slowed development. Check with them on sourceforge to see their progress.

The site lxde.org (http://lxde.org) does seem to have some issues: I get this message -

However, as other posters have said, lubuntu (an Ubuntu derivative that uses LXDE) is still going strong. Check out its website at lubuntu.net (http://lubuntu.net/).

Maybe the original LXDE devs have given up on it, and now the folks at lubuntu have taken over its development? That's just a guess, so please don't shoot me down in flamez if I've got it wrong. But one thing I can say for certain is that lubuntu works great on my old EeePC 701. I don't use the EeePC much any more (I have an Android smartphone that can deal with most of my online needs while out and about); but if not for lubuntu I probably wouldn't use the netbook ever. Which would be a damn shame, as editing docs and the like is a right pain in the rear when trying to type on a phone's touchscreen keyboard. And the Gnu Backgammon prog is sooo much better than any Android Backgammon app I've come across so far...

Lol, internet hysteria at it's best. A website goes down and all of a sudden the project is dead. I recall they also had site issues last month.

You can still get onto the irc channel,
/server irc.oftc.net
/join #lxde

That's what I am saying. lxde.org goes down often and it is often down for at least a week at a time. If people want to follow the development, it is on sourceforge not lxde.org and the development hasn't stopped at all.

The lxde sub-reddit is pretty motionless (I think I'm the only one submitting content) so if you are redditor take a look once in a while.

www.reddit.com/r/lxde

Reddit is a content aggregator site, now mostly cat pictures on imgur but you can find specific information.

Considering the version hasn't changed in a long time, I'd say it's pretty inactive. http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=default&section=all&arch=any&searchon=names&keywords=lxde

There's a lot of emphasis on 'major, meaningful' releases at the mo.

LXDE is IMaO the best lightweight DE. It's very stable and useful, perfect for my grandmother who thinks the only thing that should change is the number of icons on her desktop (which only goes up)

LXDE is a rolling DE. Individual components like LXpanel and OpenBox come with numbers, but there is no LXDE X.Y.

Gnome has numbers, Gnome 2.30 comes with Nautilus 2.30, Gnome-panel 2.30, Metacity 2.30 and so on.

LXDE comes with the latest LXpanel and OpenBox, whatever those may be. What you are looking at is the meta package which depends on the latest versions of all of the lx-components, there is no need to bump the version number of a meta package.
