I have been using Thunderbird with Lightning add-on under Windows. I just installed Ubuntu 11.10, and ported all my stuff to Ubuntu. However, I just found out that Lightning feature disappeared after launching Thunderbird, and further found out that this add-on has been grayed out. On their website it says the current version of Lightning only works with Thunderbird 8.0, which Ubuntu does not package by default.

Has anybody encountered this problem? Is there a way around it? Many thanks.

I recently upgraded to the newest ubuntu package and have had the same problem. Ideally, I would like a calendar that can be shared and used within thunderbird. I thought that Lighning looked like a natural choice and installed that on a windows pc running thunderbird 8.0. However, my girlfriend runs linux with thunderbird 7.01 on her laptop and that's when I ran into problems. Any suggestions?

I had intially thought on google calendar but want to avoid having to sign up to something else.

Thanks
