I login to the direct tv site to watch the nfl games as I pay for the service. Works on my windows box but I cannot get it to work under ubuntu. Tried firefox and chrome. No go. Java and adobe flash player are installed. Video never loads. Am I missing a plugin? The site says it's flash

Have you tried this?

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
(in a terminal)

No. What does that do exactly?

It installs some codecs, and a few other things that may be required to view multimedia like that.

I'll let you know if that works sunday ;) but why wouldn't this be installed by default?

It appears they have a Mac or Windows system requirement .

That makes no sense. It's browser based. What could be different?

Well it says supported On Mac so I would think not.

You will need to install Quicktime which is available in the Gstreamer plug-ins . The other option is Moonlight , which is Silverlight for Linux and often doesn't work due to a DRM block .

That is why they suggest MS or Mac . http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/
