Increasing fan speed

Hello!

I just installed Xubuntu 11.10 on my HP Pavilion laptop. The fan IS working, but the laptop is significantly warmer then in windows. Is there any way to make laptop increase the fan RPM?

If so, let me know how, and dumb it down as i'm pretty much a novicce within the linux world.

You can install the package lm-sensors (http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/lm-sensors) to check the temperatures. That's a first step.
