View Full Version : [ubuntu] Lemur - Mouse stops working

Hello,

I have a System 76 Lemur laptop running ubuntu 11.10.

Lately my mouse has randomly stopped working. Not knowing what else to do, I've been going to the command line with ctlr+Alt+F1 and then running "shutdown" to restart my computer.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Or a better way to manage this annoyance?

thanks!
-Mike.

I do not own a System76 computer. But, I do experience the same problem.

The mouse pointer "freezes" and it doesn't respond randomly (at unknown times). Fortunately, the keyboard works, so I can use keyboard shortcuts to finish what I am dong, and kill the X server (Control + Alt + Backspace), or simply to log out (Ctrl + Alt + Delete--->Log Out)

The freeze are not frequent, but it happens.

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6000

To a Moderator: I think that this problem is not limited to System76 (since I also have the same problem), it might be better if it could be moved to General Help (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=331) OR Hardware & Laptops (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=332).

We have to find what is the cause of this. Do you remember what you were doing when this incident happens?

Also, post your hardware specification here.
Open the Terminal and type the following:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

and paste the content here.

Thanks for the response.

I have not noticed any trend with regards to my computer activity when the fault occurs. I pretty much exclusively use my computer for Internet (firefox) and data analysis (python + packages), so usually those programs will be running when the mouse stops working.

I posted this thread under "system76" as I assumed it was probably a hardware issue, but I agree with you it's probably not if you're also having problems with your HP.

Have you tried playing around with Fn+F1 after it happens before you reboot? You might want to give that a try, as it could tell us what's going on with your trackpad.
