I am retired so money can be tight sometime. But My Ubuntu PC was put together in 2007 so time to start upgrading little by little.

If you are referring to a CD/DVD RW drive, then the "RW" indicates that it can utilize Re-Writable media. Older models that are denoted CD/DVD R refers to Recordable. Just an observation...
