So I have been perfecting an Ubuntu setup for my net-book.

And when I have everything perfected, I plan to use remastersys to make my own distro for personal use.

And that got me thinking...

It would be cool if everyone can share their customized distro's.

I see it all the time with wallpapers and things of that sort, so why not take it 1 step further.

In my opinion, that ability is one of the greatest parts of open source.

Anyways, I was wondering.
Is that allowed?
Is there a preferred method for sharing distros?

Can we just start a thread, and post links in here?

Is so, I guess feel free to get the ball rolling.

My setup is still incomplete, but feel free to share yours.
(Unless that violates a rule of sorts)

There are some people that have custom distros here, but for the most part people just tweak what's available. plus it's easier.

Btw, I felt like you a few years ago. Now, not so much. But I hear ya.

My preferred method of sharing is bittorrent.

If I were you I'd call it a custom setup unless you're going to invest a lot of time and resources into updates, repos and support. Otherwise, you could confuse a lot of people.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

But really people should be able to share anything from custom builds, to stock (for lack of a better word) Ubuntu distros with re-arranged GUIs and pre-installed software.

You can.

I agree 100% about torrents.

But that does not mean people cannot post links to torrents in here.

Besides, posting in a forum gives people more room for discussion, and describing what they did to make their setup their own.

Also, how exactly would you find a torrent for someones customized setup without knowing what they called it, and where they posted it?

Just a simple organized approach though a forum. imo

You would have to get a hold of that person. Needle in a haystack type stuff.

Which is exactly why I thought it would be cool to start a thread here for people to share. :D

The one I'm working on is available here (http://ccobb.net/ubuntu/), and here's why (http://ccobb.net/blahblahblog/?p=690) I started it. It boots from Live USB in under a minute and a half on a little old Dell Inspiron 600m, and runs on my Macbook from the same USB. I use this almost daily, 'cuz it's so convenient. It's packaged as a ZIP file to make it easier to install. If you'd like an ISO, that's do-able.

Well, I finally perfected and finished mine.
But then I realized that I set it up with Photoshop CS5 And Office 2007 pre-installed.
So I will not be sharing :(
Could catch on my part though.
That could have caused some problems for the community.

I will redo my remastersys without them installed, and should be posting soon.
