View Full Version : [ubuntu] Metacity Issues?

I have just upgraded to 11.10, and am using metacity/gnome.

I have noticed that unless I maximize a window, the file menu does not appear. It will only appear when the window is maximized, and I place the mouse over the title bar. This causes the window to bring up the file menu and control buttons.

Also, if there is a window in front of another maximized window, and I try to do something with the back maximized window, it will go from the menu title to the file menu, except in the very corner where the buttons (close, minimize, resize) should be, a few letters of the title bar appear instead. By minimizing the front window, I can get to the close/mimimize/resize buttons.

Should I be using a different window manager? Or do I have some kind of configuration issue?

I switched to XFCE, and I no longer have any problems. I don't know if this is solved, since metacity is still flaky, but it is solved for me. I use the proprietary NVidia driver, because the open source one didn't work for me (pixel lines were missing on the screen).
