If anyone has used bittorrent recently, you'll notice that it now comes with Apps :-). One of the most interesting apps I've found so far is Umap. It (using Google maps <including street view>) allows it's users to see the location of other nodes which are downloading the same file. I'm currently downloading Ubuntu to fix a few Errors I brought upon myself, but have been zooming in and out of neighborhoods all around the globe which are sharing or downloading the Ubuntu CD. What do you think? Is it cool or an invasion of privacy?

Geoip location services don't work very well, according to most geoip location services, my ip address is located at 52.1167 -122.1500, if you go to google maps and check that longitude and latitude, you'll see that my house is supposedly located just about in the tee box of the third hole of the local golf course, which is actually about 4Km as the crow flies away from my here.

Indeed. I would think that the maxmind demo (http://www.maxmind.com/app/lookup_city) would be more accurate, so I checked the location of my new colocation. It happened to be a nice 4.7 miles off (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=100+William+Street,+New+York,+NY,+Unite d+States&daddr=40.7619,+-73.9763&hl=en&ll=40.736332,-73.992405&spn=0.087148,0.181789&sll=40.762077,-73.975883&sspn=0.002739,0.005681&geocode=FUEpbQIdbb2W-yn3EePvF1rCiTFCHhCboxFgbQ%3BFSz6bQIdFDaX-w&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=m&z=13).

All the ip to location services I've used have been spot on :-(. I used my local IP address (actually a public wifi hotspot) and they've been pinpoint accurately on Google maps.
