View Full Version : [gnome] 11.04 to 11.10, then back again

I've been using Ubuntu since 6.06, and I've installed every new version ever since. The first thing I do each time is try to make the new version look as close to the Dapper Drake desktop as possible. This hadn't really been a huge issue until the past few releases. I upgraded to 11.10 last night, and tried to do the same. I tried out Unity for a few hours, then installed gnome-shell (I didn't like Unity in 11.04 either). However, it was buggy for me and didn't look enough like the older versions. So I tried gnome-session-fallback. While it was closer, it was ugly and didn't seem as configurable as my desktop had been in the past. After a few hours I just went back to 11.04 and did my normal tweaks. I'm disappointed, as I'd really like to get into the newest version of Ubuntu.

Any advice for tweaking Oneiric to look and function like older versions of Ubuntu? I'm not giving up on, just frustrated.
Thanks!
