Many of us like Unity but cannot use it due to various issues and bugs that may (or may not) be resolved in the future.
Let's collect some workarounds, ideas and shreds of hope here! The idea is to keep us as much as possible in the Unity (or at least GNOME) paradigms.

Install LXDE (loosely coupled, lightweight desktop based on GTK+) using this guide I wrote (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1905408).
Or, install XFCE: (integrated desktop based on GTK+, similar in some ways to GNOME 2)
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

Linux Mint's MGSE (http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1851) (brings back GNOME 2 features, and more, to GNOME 3)
