Hello everyone,

I'm considering to switch from a mac- to a ubuntu-desktop. From the mac I'm reconize the unity-launcher-principle. At the mac it's called 'dock'. It works very fine. At the screenshot below, you see I can display the application-icons in the dock as very small. And so my question is, how small can you display the application-icons in the unity-launcher?

Also with ubuntu, I guess it's more comfortable to use smaller application-icons. Because with the foldable icons I've seen, there is less overview.

Allready thanks for the answers.
Kind regards from the Netherlands. ;)

The smallest is 32bits.

To make this more visible to me: Can I display the application-icons at the about the same size as I do now at my mac (see my screenshot).

And is it also possible to limit the dark-grey area to only the area where the application-icons are displayed, like I do at my mac (again: see my screenshot). Because that's what's I'm used to at my mac.

Behind the applications-icons in the unity-launcher I see also coloured square's: With firefox it's orange; with banshee it's blue.
Is it possible to replace those coloured squares, and use the dark-grey of the launcher?

32bit is pretty small but probably not as small as the icons in your pic.

You can turn the color of the icon backgrounds off.

Moved from Ubuntu Testimonials and Experience (which is not for support questions) to Desktop Environments forum.

I also would like to see smaller icons available in the launcher.
I have one machine which has only a small monitor used for a specific purpose.
It works well with 11.10 but the icon size is out of proportion to the desktop real estate. Nothing at all wrong with the function - just the appearance of the icons on a machine which is seen and used by a wide range of people.
Where are the icons kept? Would it be possible to edit them to a smaller size using Gimp or similar?

In unity 3D 32 pixels is the smallest option and the adjustment is in the Ubuntu Unity Plug-in located in the CCSM . Unity 2D works differently has no such adjustments , but you can add an auto-hide option with this application . http://marianochavero.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/unity-2d-settings-ui-for-ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/
