using tar.gz files correctly making them work

Hi there ubuntu community, I have a begginer question on how to correctly use a tar. file like for instance flash player for ubuntu. I downloaded the file from adobe website and extracted it to desktop. However, i am completely un aware on how to actually make the install. work any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated!:D
