Morning fellas,

I recently installed Intrepid (8.10) in an old dell latitude d520. Choose that version because of past experiences with it and i needed something lightweight.
However i cannot access any repository that came with Synaptic
http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu intrepid partner
Or main universe multiverse restricted.

How can i update this lists? Are there alternatives or will i have to upgrade to a LTS or the most recent version?

You can't update Intrepid, it reached the end of its support period back in 2010 (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases). Look at either Lucid (LTS) or Oneiric.

If you need something light weight then look at Lubuntu. Or, if you want something with a more traditional look than Oneiric's Ubuntu or Kubuntu then look at Xubuntu.

Well if all else fails, i'll go with 10, since lubuntu/xubuntu don't recognize my wi-fi card.
But Ubuntu being debian based, couldn't i use third party repositories that have deb packages in Synaptic?

If I understand correctly you can use the Debian repositories if you first load the Debian key. However, it'd be better just to get over to Debian completely if you want really long release cycles.
