I would like to migrate from Linux Mint LMDE 10 to Ubuntu 11.10. I have a separate /home partition.

Can Install Ubuntu and just tell it not to format my home partition and keep my existing personal files in tact or will that cause issues? I would boot to the live environment and delete all settings files and folders from my home folder ahead of time.

The method I use is the same as you are setup for.

Select the 'something else' (a.k.a. manual) partitioning at Ubuntu install time.

set the current '/' partition to be '/' and check the format box.

Set the current '/home' partition to be '/home' and DO NOT CHECK the format box.

Thats what I thought I was dealing with but I got an itch and couldn't wait for confirmation. I backed everything up, which I do regularly anyway, and just wiped it all out. :) I was a little worried as even though Mint standard edition is based on Ubuntu, LMDE is pure Debian.

Now I have a few performance issues but I'm working on those.

Thank you for your reply!
