I'm curious about trying the Enlightenment desktop. How is it terms of speed, usability, etc? Anyone have any experience, good or bad?

I have tried E17 on 11.04 and 11.10 and I liked it though I am not a fan of the default window borders . It is very customizable once you know how to go about it and a left click on the desktop brings up a menu in any open area .

E17 has multiple shelf / dock options that can be placed on all sides . It is also light weight in comparison to Ubuntu . The core packages are available in the software center if you want to get an idea what it is like . If you want a more complete experience a PPA would be better .

This was posted by Witchcraft .

his is how exactly:

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hannes-janetzek/enlightenment-svn
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install e17
Works perfectly.
If it remains black on the first login, just press CTRL + ALT + PRINT_SCREEN +K to restart X, then try to login again.

Finally, a usable desktop replacement for gnome3.
KDE is too slow, XFCE too limited.
e17 -> A slight but smooth learning-curve for the total novice, but all-in-all pretty close to perfect.

Obviously I'm a little biased... But for the best E experience around give Bodhi Linux a try.
