I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 Ocelot. LightDM kept crashing with a black screen when I logged on, so I decided to switch back to GDM. Glad I did cuz GDM is much faster and more stable. Don't why Ubuntu included this new LightDM crap in Ocelot.

Give it some time... GDM was hard to maintain because of the necessary Ubuntu specific patches, the size of the codebase and it was not easily customizable either.
LightDM is about 1/6 of the size of GDM, already well customizable (not from the gui though) and while it has some loose ends it has great potential.

How do you switch back?

Is there a way to get lightdm to suspend when idle from the greeter - ie, when no user is logged in?

I hope this isn't just blatant thread jacking on my part.
