Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums Mohamed,

Are you sure you want to install Ubuntu over Windows (meaning to over-write Windows)?

Dual-boot is a possibility that gives you a transition period, where you can run both operating systems (unless your hard drive is so small, that you have not space enough for both of them.

Have fun finding out about Ubuntu :-)

Here is a dual boot guide and an illustrated guide . If you are going to overwrite Windows you can use the entire disk option. Be sure you won't need Windows for anything before removing it .

First of all, you should NEVER force the installation of Ubuntu on any new PC. Before you install it, use the Try Ubuntu option to see how well it works running from CD. It will be slower, but you will be able to determine how well it detects your hardware and installs all the proper drivers.

If that works well, then click the Install icon and select the option to use the entire disk. That will erase what you have now and replace it with Ubuntu.

Read the links provided by Frogs Hair!

Dual boot means that you select to boot either Ubuntu or Windows at power-on.

If a new system you can use the 64bit version. If you want the long term version it is 10.04.03 or the current update which is not long term 11.10.

Besure to create recovery DVD(s) first. And a Windows repair CD.

Most of us at the Ubuntu Forums are users that help each other. If you cannot download an iso file and burn a boot CD or make a boot USB stick, you have the option to buy a CD from Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu.

Downloading Ubuntu is free, but buying CDs costs money.
