hi, i just upgraded to ubuntu 11.10, but i really hate the desktop. How can i recover the desktop I had with ubuntu 11.04 (I had the classic one!)

You can't have it.

You can install gnome-session-fallback which is similar to what you knew and loved, but it's not exactly the same and I'm afraid you will fell disappointed.

It's time to test other Desktop Environments. When was the last time you tried KDE or XFCE or LXDE or ... you name it? You might realize that you were missing a fantastic piece of software.

If you want/need the Gnome 2 desktop you'll need to revert to 10.04, 10.10 or 11.04, unfortunately. There are other options for other DE's, but the Gnome 2 option is no longer available since Ubuntu now supports Gnome 3.
