Synaptic quick search no more?

I have just upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to Xubuntu 11.10.
The version of synaptic has gone from 0.63.1 to 0.75.2 but the features appear to have reverted to an earlier version! There was a "quick search" box in 0.63.1 which has disappeared in 0.75.2. How can I get it back?
