Hi all,

I hope someone can help me. I need to stop programs offering me the foreign language and mathematical fonts (which i'll never use) in the drop-down lists in Inkscape, The Gimp, Scribus, and Word Processors.

As things are, i have to scroll through loads and loads of fonts which i neither want nor need in order to find the font i want.

I suspect that the displayed fonts are needed or in use by the system(?) so I'm not looking to uninstall them, just stop them being offered for use by programs.

Is there an easy fix that will allow me to choose which fonts are available to my design/text programs?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

(I suspect this is a question that has been asked before - if so, please give me a kick and a pointer to the existing thread)

I also find them annoying but never had the gall to uinstall a couple of them and see what happens, though.

You may have more informed answers in the general help section :)

Edit: the KDE font manager has the option to "disable" a font without uninstalling it... Gnome should have a similar function.

Just disabled a batch, and they indeed disappear from the Gimp font lists. System still running fine so far.

Yep, thank you. I've installed Font manager and will have a play.

You want a font management application such as Fontmatrix or the amazingly easily googlable Font Manager :)

Just a word of warning: Fontmatrix build in Ubuntu is completely screwed and nobody bothers to fix it (a report has been submitted long time ago). So you might want to build it yourself.
