View Full Version : [ubuntu] 'Open with' application chooser faulty?

In earlier Ubuntu versions, the 'Open with' pop-up would give a useful selection of possible applications for that file type.
Since upgrading to 11.10 it shows me a list of recent files that I've had open, not apps. Not very helpful to try opening a media file with my last grocery list!
How can I get 'Open with' to be useful again?

Any chance of help with this? It's driving me nuts. I click on a link on a website or download, and up comes the 'Open with' selector. It offers me one app I don't want to use and when I click on 'Other' it drops down a list of recent documents and files - no applications!

Before the upgrade to 11.10 the 'Other' list would be appropriate apps for the type of file, and I would dearly like it to go back to that.

I believe this has something to do with the Gtk3 settings. I have yet to figure this out as well.

What are gtk3 settings? I wd really like to solve this problem and make the "open with" box useful.
