I am trying to convert my file systems to ext4 on Ubuntu 8.10 text only sustem (No GParted)
Using parted:
(parted) mkpart primary ext4 0 100%
(parted) print
Model: ATA Maxtor 92739U6 (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 27.4GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 512B 27.4GB 27.4GB primary ext4
First question, where it says msdos, What's that about? Is it OK or do I need to do something about it?
After quitting parted, I did and get:
~$ sudo mke2fs -T ext4 /dev/sda1
mke2fs 1.41.11 (14-Mar-2010)
Filesystem label=
OS type: Linux
Block size=4096 (log=2)
Fragment size=4096 (log=2)
Stride=0 blocks, Stripe width=0 blocks
1672800 inodes, 6688709 blocks
334435 blocks (5.00%) reserved for the super user
First data block=0
Maximum filesystem blocks=0
205 block groups
32768 blocks per group, 32768 fragments per group
8160 inodes per group
Superblock backups stored on blocks:
32768, 98304, 163840, 229376, 294912, 819200, 884736, 1605632, 2654208,
4096000
Writing inode tables: done
Creating journal (32768 blocks): done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done
This filesystem will be automatically checked every 39 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.
So far, so good, but the results of:
~$ blkid
/dev/sda1: UUID="74106219-ab42-46d7-a14a-0374aeb9faa0" TYPE="ext2"
Note it reports ext2.
Second, (and much more important) question, What's wrong, and how do I fix it?
Thanks, Mark.
