11.10 taking too long to open programs from desktop icons (when they do open)

Hello, I am having trouble opening programs such as pidgin from the desktop icon. The program runs normally but it the main chat won't appear when I click on the icon... I have to quit the program and reopen it in order for the main chat window (the one that shows all online buddies) to pop up! How do I fix this problem?

p.s: this happens to other programs as well.

:(Same problem here, but with Gwibber... it takes too much time to open and seems not to post my updates.
I realized that applications menu takes too much time to appear and some times i can't find my programs.
My installation is not a fresh one. I came from Ubuntu 11.04 and i was using Gnome 2.
